I was 14, the summer before my first year of high school, I suffered a spinal cord injury in a swimming accident leaving me a quadriplegic. I am paralyzed from my chest down with very little hand function. I had to decide to fight or give up and giving up was never an option for me. After spending 3 months in the hospital and countless surgeries and procedures I came home to my world upside down. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse the world was shut down by the covid pandemic. I was stuck, stranded, alone. That was the biggest turning point in my life and I’ll never forget it. I decided to take control of my destiny and “BE THE DRIVER”.
I’m thankful for my injury because it has taught me so many things, it has made me look at life in a way I never would have been able to.
